In an effort to enhance access to mediation services for residents across South Dakota, the South Dakota Mediation Center (SDMC) has launched a new program aimed at providing affordable and convenient mediation options for individuals and families in need of conflict resolution.The program, known as the Community Mediation Initiative, was officially unveiled on December 11, 2025, during a press conference held at the SDMC headquarters in Sioux Falls. The initiative is designed to address the growing demand for mediation services in the state, as more individuals seek out alternative dispute resolution options to resolve conflicts in a timely and cost-effective manner.One of the key components of the Community Mediation Initiative is the introduction of mobile mediation units that will travel to various communities throughout South Dakota to provide mediation services on-site. These units will be staffed by trained mediators who will work with individuals and families to facilitate dialogue, negotiate agreements, and achieve mutually satisfactory resolutions to conflicts.Additionally, the SDMC has partnered with local community organizations and government agencies to offer free or low-cost mediation services to individuals who may not be able to afford traditional mediation fees. This partnership aims to ensure that all South Dakotans have access to the benefits of mediation, regardless of their financial circumstances."We believe that mediation is a powerful tool for resolving disputes and building stronger, more connected communities," said Rebecca Larson, Executive Director of the South Dakota Mediation Center.
