South Dakota Civil Rights Law News - South Dakota Civil Rights Commission Launches Investigation into Alleged Housing Discrimination

In a move to address ongoing concerns of discrimination in housing practices, the South Dakota Civil Rights Commission announced today the launch of an investigation into allegations of housing discrimination in the state. This comes after a series of complaints were filed by residents claiming they were denied housing opportunities based on their race, ethnicity, or other protected characteristics. The commission, which is tasked with enforcing state and federal anti-discrimination laws, has stated that they take these allegations very seriously and are committed to ensuring fair and equal access to housing for all residents of South Dakota. The investigation will focus on examining the practices of landlords, property managers, and other housing providers to determine if any violations of civil rights laws have occurred."Everyone deserves the right to live in a safe and secure home, free from discrimination," said Commissioner Jane Doe in a statement. "We will not tolerate any form of discrimination in housing and will take swift action to address any violations that are uncovered during this investigation."The commission has already begun reaching out to individuals who have filed complaints, as well as conducting interviews with those involved in the housing transactions in question. They have also encouraged any other individuals who believe they have been subjected to discrimination in housing to come forward and file a complaint."This investigation is just the beginning of our efforts to ensure that all residents of South Dakota have equal access to housing opportunities," said Commissioner John Smith. "We are committed to upholding civil rights laws and will continue to work tirelessly to address any instances of discrimination that we may uncover."The commission expects the investigation to take several weeks to complete, after which they will issue a report detailing their findings and any actions that will be taken to address the alleged discrimination. In the meantime, they are urging all residents to be vigilant in reporting any instances of discrimination in housing to the commission."Discrimination has no place in our society, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that it is eradicated from our housing market," said Commissioner Doe. "We are committed to upholding the rights of all individuals and will not rest until justice is served."
