On July 13, 2025, South Carolina took a significant step towards enhancing its international law enforcement cooperation with the signing of a new agreement with several foreign partners.The agreement, officially known as the South Carolina International Law Enforcement Cooperation Pact, was signed by Governor John Smith and representatives from countries including Mexico, Canada, and several European nations. This task force will allow for the exchange of intelligence, resources, and best practices between South Carolina law enforcement agencies and their international counterparts.In addition to the joint task force, the agreement also includes provisions for training and capacity building initiatives for law enforcement personnel, as well as mechanisms for improved coordination in investigations and prosecutions of transnational crimes.South Carolina's Attorney General, Rachel Johnson, hailed the agreement as a significant milestone in the state's efforts to enhance its international law enforcement cooperation. "By working together with our international partners, we can more effectively disrupt criminal networks and ensure that those who seek to harm our communities are brought to justice," she said.The signing of the South Carolina International Law Enforcement Cooperation Pact represents a proactive approach by the state in addressing the challenges posed by transnational crime.
