In an effort to promote innovation and protect the intellectual property of small businesses in Ohio, the state's Intellectual Property Office has announced the launch of a new program aimed at providing resources and assistance to entrepreneurs and inventors. The program, called the Small Business Intellectual Property Support Initiative, will offer free consultations, workshops, and educational resources to help small businesses navigate the complex world of intellectual property law. This includes guidance on patent, trademark, and copyright laws, as well as assistance with licensing agreements and enforcement of intellectual property rights.According to Sarah Johnson, Director of the Ohio Intellectual Property Office, the initiative was created in response to the growing number of small businesses facing intellectual property challenges. "Intellectual property is a valuable asset for businesses of all sizes, but smaller companies often lack the resources and expertise to effectively protect and leverage their IP rights," Johnson said. "Our goal is to level the playing field and empower small businesses to take full advantage of their innovations."The program will also offer financial assistance to qualifying small businesses seeking to obtain patents or trademarks. This includes reimbursing a portion of the costs associated with filing for and maintaining intellectual property protections.Jennifer Harrison, a local entrepreneur and participant in the program, praised the initiative for its support. "As a small business owner, I have always struggled with understanding and protecting my intellectual property," Harrison said. "Thanks to this program, I now have access to the resources and guidance I need to protect my inventions and ideas."The Small Business Intellectual Property Support Initiative is set to officially launch on March 1, 2026, and interested businesses can sign up for consultations and workshops through the Ohio Intellectual Property Office website.Overall, the program is expected to benefit hundreds of small businesses across Ohio and contribute to the growth of the state's innovation ecosystem. By providing essential support and resources, the initiative aims to empower small businesses to thrive and succeed in today's competitive marketplace.
