New Mexico Securities Law News - New Mexico Securities Commission Issues Warning About Potential Investment Scam

On February 7, 2026, the New Mexico Securities Commission issued a warning to investors about a potential investment scam that has been circulating in the state. The scam involves individuals who are falsely claiming to be licensed investment advisors and promising high returns on investments.According to the Securities Commission, the scammers are targeting unsuspecting investors through online advertisements and cold calls, luring them in with promises of quick and guaranteed returns. Once the investors have transferred their money, the scammers disappear, leaving the victims with no way to recoup their losses.“We want to alert the public to be cautious and do their due diligence before investing their hard-earned money with anyone claiming to be an investment advisor,” said John Doe, a spokesperson for the New Mexico Securities Commission. “It is important to verify the credentials of any individual or firm offering investment opportunities.”The Securities Commission has urged investors to be wary of any investment opportunities that seem too good to be true and to always research and verify the credentials of anyone offering investment advice. They have also advised individuals to report any suspicious activity to the Commission immediately. In light of this warning, several victims have come forward to share their experiences with the scam. One investor, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated that they were promised a 200% return on their investment within a matter of weeks. However, after transferring their money, they never heard from the individual again.“I thought I was making a smart investment decision, but in reality, I was scammed out of thousands of dollars,” the victim said. “I hope that by sharing my story, others will be more cautious and avoid falling victim to similar scams.”The New Mexico Securities Commission continues to investigate the matter and is working to identify and apprehend those responsible for perpetrating the scam. In the meantime, they are encouraging investors to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to protect themselves and others from falling victim to investment fraud.
