On November 6, 2025, the Nebraska Mediation Center reported a significant increase in the number of cases being referred for mediation, as individuals and businesses continue to grapple with the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The center, which provides mediation services for a variety of disputes including family matters, landlord-tenant conflicts, and workplace issues, has seen a 25% uptick in new cases over the past year. This surge in demand for mediation services is largely attributed to the economic strains brought on by the pandemic, which have exacerbated existing tensions and disputes among Nebraskans."We have definitely noticed an increase in the number of cases coming through our doors," said Sarah Johnson, a mediator at the center. "People are feeling the strain of the pandemic in their personal and professional lives, and many are turning to mediation as a cost-effective and efficient way to resolve their issues."In addition to an increase in caseload, the Nebraska Mediation Center has also been adapting to the new challenges posed by the pandemic. With social distancing guidelines in place, the center has shifted to offering virtual mediation services to accommodate clients who prefer to conduct sessions remotely."We had to quickly pivot to offering virtual mediation sessions to ensure the safety of our clients and staff," said Johnson. "While it has presented some unique challenges, we have found that virtual mediation can be just as effective as in-person sessions."Despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic, the Nebraska Mediation Center remains committed to providing quality mediation services to the community. With demand for mediation services expected to continue rising in the coming months, the center is working diligently to meet the needs of Nebraskans seeking resolution to their conflicts.
