Louisiana Mediation Law News - Louisiana Mediation Center Launches New Program Aimed at Resolving Family Disputes

On January 16, 2026, the Louisiana Mediation Center announced the launch of a new program specifically designed to help families resolve disputes outside of the courtroom. The program, called Family Mediation Services, aims to provide a safe and neutral space for families to come together and work through their issues with the help of a trained mediator. The Louisiana Mediation Center, located in Baton Rouge, has been offering mediation services for a wide range of disputes for over a decade. However, this new program marks a significant step forward in the center's commitment to helping families navigate challenging situations in a peaceful and constructive manner."We recognized the need for a specialized program that focuses specifically on family disputes, as these types of conflicts can be particularly sensitive and emotional," said Sarah Johnson, director of the Louisiana Mediation Center. "Our goal is to provide families with the tools and support they need to communicate effectively, identify common ground, and ultimately come to a resolution that is in the best interest of all parties involved."Family Mediation Services will offer mediation sessions for a variety of family-related issues, including divorce and separation, child custody and visitation, parent-child conflicts, and elder care disagreements. The center's team of experienced mediators will work closely with each family to facilitate open and honest communication, explore possible solutions, and guide the parties towards reaching a mutually acceptable agreement. In addition to traditional in-person mediation sessions, the Louisiana Mediation Center will also offer virtual mediation services to accommodate families who may be unable to meet in person due to distance, scheduling conflicts, or health concerns."We believe that mediation is a more effective and sustainable alternative to litigation when it comes to resolving family disputes," Johnson added. "By providing families with the opportunity to address their conflicts in a collaborative and non-adversarial manner, we hope to help them avoid the stress, time, and expense of going to court."The launch of Family Mediation Services represents a significant milestone for the Louisiana Mediation Center and reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to promoting peaceful conflict resolution throughout the state. Families interested in learning more about the program or scheduling a mediation session can contact the center directly for more information.
