Idaho Mediation Law News - Idaho Mediation Centers See Increase in Demand for Services

BOISE, ID - In a trend that has been noted across the state, Idaho mediation centers are reporting a significant increase in demand for their services. As of November 22, 2025, mediation centers in cities like Boise, Idaho Falls, and Coeur d'Alene have seen a surge in the number of individuals and families seeking out mediation as an alternative to traditional litigation.According to the Idaho Mediation Association, the uptick in demand can be attributed to a variety of factors, including the rising costs of legal fees, lengthy court proceedings, and a growing awareness of the benefits of mediation in resolving disputes amicably and efficiently. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift towards mediation as a preferred method of conflict resolution, as individuals seek to avoid the delays and uncertainties of the court system."We have definitely seen a noticeable increase in the number of clients seeking out our mediation services," said Sarah Johnson, a mediator at the Boise Resolution Center. "People are realizing that mediation offers a more cost-effective, timely, and collaborative approach to resolving their disputes, whether it's a divorce, a business conflict, or a dispute between neighbors."In addition to the surge in private mediation services, the Idaho court system has also been promoting mediation as a way to alleviate the backlog of cases caused by the pandemic. The Idaho Supreme Court has implemented new rules and guidelines to encourage parties to consider mediation before resorting to litigation, leading to a greater utilization of mediation services in both civil and family court cases."I think the courts have recognized the benefits of mediation in easing their caseloads and promoting more peaceful resolutions," said Mike Thompson, a mediator at the Idaho Falls Mediation Center. "By encouraging parties to engage in mediation early on, we can help them avoid the time, cost, and emotional toll of going through a lengthy court battle."As mediation continues to gain popularity as a preferred method of dispute resolution in Idaho, mediation centers are expanding their services and hiring more mediators to accommodate the growing demand. With the support of the legal community and the public, mediation is poised to play an increasingly important role in resolving conflicts and promoting cooperation in the years to come.
