In an effort to improve workplace safety and protect workers across Hawaii, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has announced the implementation of new regulations aimed at reducing the risk of workplace injuries and fatalities.Effective immediately, employers in Hawaii will be required to implement stricter guidelines for the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in hazardous work environments. This includes providing employees with proper training on the use of PPE, as well as ensuring that all PPE meets OSHA's standards for safety and effectiveness.Additionally, OSHA will be increasing its enforcement efforts to crack down on employers who fail to provide a safe working environment for their employees. "These new regulations are designed to protect employees from unnecessary harm and hold employers accountable for their responsibilities to provide a safe working environment."The implementation of these new regulations comes in response to a recent increase in workplace injuries and fatalities across Hawaii. According to OSHA, there were 35 reported workplace fatalities in Hawaii in 2025, with the construction and healthcare industries being among the most affected.Employers across the state have expressed support for the new regulations, recognizing the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of their employees.
