On October 5, 2025, the Hawaii Mediation Center celebrated National Mediation Day by highlighting the impact of mediation in resolving conflicts and disputes peacefully across the state. The center, which has been serving the community for over a decade, reported a significant increase in the number of cases successfully mediated in the past year."We are proud to be a leading provider of mediation services in Hawaii, helping individuals and organizations find common ground and reach mutually beneficial resolutions," said the executive director of the Hawaii Mediation Center, Sarah Wong. "On National Mediation Day, we want to raise awareness about the importance of mediation in fostering cooperation and understanding among diverse parties."According to the center's annual report, there was a 20% increase in the number of cases successfully mediated in 2024 compared to the previous year. These cases ranged from family disputes and landlord-tenant conflicts to workplace disagreements and community tensions. The center attributes this growth to its skilled team of mediators and the increasing recognition of mediation as a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional litigation.One of the success stories shared by the Hawaii Mediation Center involved a long-standing land dispute between two indigenous communities on the island of Maui. After years of legal battles and failed negotiations, the two parties agreed to attend mediation sessions facilitated by the center. Through open dialogue and guided communication, the communities were able to reach a compromise that respected their cultural heritage and shared interests."We are grateful for the Hawaii Mediation Center for helping us find a way forward in our dispute," said Kahu Kealoha, a community leader from one of the indigenous groups.
