Florida Internet Law Law News - Florida Passes New Internet Regulation Law Aimed at Protecting User Data

In a move aimed at protecting user privacy and data security, the state of Florida has passed a new internet regulation law on October 31, 2025. The law, known as the Florida Internet Protection Act, imposes strict rules on internet service providers (ISPs) and website operators to ensure the safeguarding of personal information.Under the new law, ISPs are required to obtain explicit consent from users before collecting any personal data, such as browsing history, search queries, and location information. Additionally, ISPs must implement strong encryption measures to protect user data from unauthorized access or breaches.Website operators are also subject to the Florida Internet Protection Act, as they are now required to provide clear and transparent privacy policies detailing the type of data collected, how it is used, and with whom it is shared. Users must consent to these policies before their data can be collected and stored.Furthermore, the law prohibits the sale of personal information to third parties without user consent. Violations of the Florida Internet Protection Act can result in hefty fines and penalties for ISPs and website operators.Florida Governor, Jane Smith, lauded the passage of the new internet regulation law, stating, "In today's digital age, it is imperative that we take steps to protect our citizens' personal information and privacy. The Florida Internet Protection Act ensures that user data is safeguarded and that internet companies are held accountable for how they handle and use this sensitive information."The Florida Internet Protection Act is set to go into effect on January 1, 2026, giving ISPs and website operators a grace period to come into compliance with the new regulations. It is expected that other states may follow Florida's lead in enacting similar internet protection laws to prioritize user privacy and data security in the online realm.
