On August 17, 2025, the District of Columbia government unveiled a new initiative aimed at tackling the city's affordable housing crisis. This increase will allow for more comprehensive outreach efforts and streamlined processes for affordable housing projects.Councilmember John Martinez, who has been a vocal advocate for affordable housing, lauded the new initiative as a significant step in the right direction. "Our residents deserve access to stable and affordable housing options, and this program will help us move closer to that goal," Martinez said. The Affordable Housing Preservation and Development Program is set to launch in the coming months, with the first round of funding expected to be allocated by the end of the year.
