Delaware Government Law News - Delaware Governor Signs Bill to Create Statewide Mental Health Task Force

In a significant move to address mental health issues in the state, Delaware Governor Sarah Reynolds signed a bill today to establish a statewide Mental Health Task Force. The task force, comprised of mental health experts, advocates, and legislators, will work to identify gaps in the current mental health system and recommend solutions to improve access and quality of care for all Delaware residents.Governor Reynolds emphasized the importance of addressing mental health challenges in the state, stating that "too many Delawareans are struggling with mental health issues and are not receiving the necessary support and resources they need to heal and thrive. By creating this task force, we are taking a crucial step towards addressing these challenges and ensuring that mental health care is more accessible and effective for all."The bill also includes provisions to increase funding for mental health services, enhance training for mental health professionals, and promote awareness and education about mental health issues. Additionally, the task force will work to address disparities in mental health care access and quality among different populations, including low-income individuals, minorities, and LGBTQ+ communities.State Senator Claire Thompson, who co-sponsored the bill, said, "I am proud to see this legislation signed into law today. Mental health is a critical issue that affects every aspect of our society, and we must do everything we can to support those struggling with mental illness and ensure they have access to the care they need."The creation of the Mental Health Task Force comes at a time when mental health issues have become more prevalent in Delaware as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and other stressors. With the new task force in place, Delaware aims to improve the mental well-being of its residents and create a more holistic approach to mental health care in the state.
