Starting on February 15, 2026, individuals caught defacing public or private property will face harsher consequences, including longer prison sentences and heftier fines.According to the Delaware Department of Justice, vandalism incidents have been on the rise in recent years, causing significant damage to both public infrastructure and private businesses. Law enforcement officials attribute this increase to a combination of factors, including a lack of consequences for offenders and the prevalence of social media challenges promoting destructive behavior.Under the new legislation, individuals convicted of vandalism will face a minimum sentence of six months in prison, up from the previous minimum of three months. Repeat offenders could face even longer jail time, with the possibility of up to two years behind bars.
